Bill Taylor propone un laboratorio di musica medievale su arpe storiche, esaminando principalmente brani del manoscritto Robert ap Huw, esemplificandone e illustrandone la implicita tecnica strumentale utilizzabile per il repertorio di chanson e danze continentali. Bill Taylor will lead a workshop in playing medieval music on historical harps, looking primarily at pieces from the Robert ap Huw manuscript and using the techniques in that source to play several Continental songs and dances. The manuscript contains the earliest music for harp, with compositions by Welsh bardic harp players from the 14^th and 15^th centuries. Techniques used in the manuscript clearly require the players to use fingernails and particular damping movements, to cleanly separate moments of tension from moments of resolution. Written in tablature, the music is startingly different from other Continental medieval styles. Rather than employing melodies in one, two or three voices, the pieces exploit a rich harmonic texture, enlivened by a delicate filigree of rapid shakes and trills. Indeed, the gestures are reminiscent of those found in music from the Buxheimer Orgelbuch and the Faenza Codex.

Bill Taylor è musicista specializzato nell'esecuzione di musica antica per arpa proveniente da Irlanda, Scozia e Galles, ed è uno dei pochissimi ricercatori del repertorio di lire, arpe medievali, arpe con corde di metallo e arpe rinascimentali con arpioni. Oltre a dedicarsi alla musica medievale continentale, è uno dei principali interpreti delle composizioni del manoscritto di Robert ap Huw, contenente la più antica musica europea per arpa. Bill Taylor is a specialist in the performance of ancient harp music from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and is one of very few players investigating these repertoires on lyres, medieval gut-strung harps, wire-strung clarsachs and Renaissance harps with buzzing bray pins. As well as performing Continental medieval music, he is one of the foremost interpreters of music in the Robert ap Huw manuscript, containing the earliest harp music from Europe. Having recorded over thirty CDs, he has made two solo recordings of the medieval Welsh repertoire using historical harps. Bill performs and teaches in the Scottish Highlands and works with Ardival Harps in Strathpeffer. He performs and records as a soloist and with several ensembles, including Graindelavoix, Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, Quadrivium and Sinfonye.
