IRMUS - MUSIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE

IRMUS - Music Research Institute, born in 1985 as the Contemporary Music Sectionof the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, has become an irreplaceable meeting place for composers, performers and audience.

Its activities are known in Italy(Premio Abbiati awarded in 1986)and abroad(many cooperations withIRCAMin Paris, Ferienkurse in Darmstadt,Gaudeamus Foundationin Amsterdam, Gulbenkian Foundationin Lisbon).

IRMus represents, within the educational offer of the school, the specialization most connected with creativity and innovation. As such it aims to those who have good preparation and great motivation.

IRMus places side by side the usual creativity of the musician (composer and performer) and the new music crafts (Audio Technology)showing great attention for a fast-changing world where artistic competence increasingly binds to technology.

IRMus curricular offer focuses on the following categories:

academic courses (Music for the Moving Image), professionalizing intensive courses (Audio Technology, Music for the Moving Image), free courses (Contemporary Electric Guitar, Improvisation Workshop, Journalism and Music Communication).

The computer lab, is open to young people interested in the new music technologies and new sound crafts. Furthermore it’s open to the graduating composers who want to expand their knowledge over the possibilities offered by electronic and computer technology.

The School has been authorised by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) to issue university-level qualifications (AFAM) for the 1° cycle Bachelor program.
