ContrabbassoOutside of his duties as principal bass of the New York Philharmonic, double bassist Timothy Cobb maintains a busy schedule of teaching, chamber music, and solo performances.
Mr. Cobb serves as bass department chair at the Juilliard School in New York City, as well as holding faculty positions at the Manhattan School of Music, Purchase College- SUNY, and is a distinguished visiting faculty member at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Mr. Cobb makes frequent appearances abroad as an instructor to such countries as Italy, the United Kingdom and Korea.
Mr. Cobb appears with many major chamber societies, such as those of Lincoln Center in New York, La Jolla, California, and the Seattle Chamber Music Society, where in 2022 he recorded the Dvorak Quintet, opus 77, with violinist James Ehnes.
Mr. Cobb is a frequent contributor to the “String Virtuoso” website where his recordings and tutorials may be found. Additionally, four duos for double bass by Giovanni Bottesini recorded with bassist Thomas Martin of the U.K., are on the Naxos label.
From his participation as principal bass of the World Orchestra for Peace, Mr. Cobb hold the designation “ Unesco Artist for Peace “.
