Born in Klagenfurt in 1982, Stefan Haimel received his first trumpet lessons at elementary school from his father Franz Haimel, himself a trumpeter in the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra. After further instruction at the State Music School in Klagenfurt and the Carinthian State Conservatory, in 2002 he took the concert subject trumpet with Josef Pomberger at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
After he had already substituted in the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, he intensified this activity after moving to Vienna and gained important professional experience in the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper, the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the stage orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic.
In March 2004, Stefan Haimel, who has won several prizes at the “Prima la Musica” youth competition and who has performed as a soloist with the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra , completed a successful audition for the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, but did not take up the position: In May 2004 he won an audition for the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and has been a member of the Vienna Philharmonic since 2007.
